Designing of Shaft

Bending

The force which develops across a specific cross-section of the shaft generates stress at that point of the cross-section that is subjected to maximum loading.

Torsion

When the shaft is twisted by the couple such that the axis of that shaft and the couple harmonize.

Combined bent and Torsion

In actual practice, the shaft is subjected to a combination of the above two types of stresses bending and torsion.
